Santa Fe Student Joins Mayoral Race

A student hasn't run for Gainesville mayor since 2010, and even then the candidate was twenty-nine years old.

Twenty-year-old Marlon Bruce is joining the race and competing with three other people for the position of Gainesville City Mayor. Bruce, a political science major, hopes to transfer to UF later this year. He believes his young set of eyes can bring a new perspective to the town. The election is to occur on March 19th.

Its been 8 years but Apple is planning to change its charging cables again to the ones that Android users have already used for Galaxy S9 and Pixel 2.

"Final Destination" Coming Back to Theatres

The "Final Destination" franchise is coming back to the big screen in a reboot form. The release date hasn't been revealed yet.

The "Final Destination" franchise was based on people seeing premonitions on how they were going to die, so they could prepare and try to "escape death". While it didn't work for everyone, the franchise became one of the scariest genre of films to hit the big screen. The first movie premiered back in 2000 and brought in close to $112 million worldwide after it only cost $23 million to make the movie. The original brought along four other movies which all grossed almost $700 million combined. The last time a "Final Destination" movie hit the big screen was in 2014.

Hooters Reopening for the Third Time in Gainesville

The famous buffalo wing chain, Hooters, is trying to make it a go for the third time in Gainesville.

The new location will be where the former Square 1 burger location was, at 3105 SW 34th Street. If you think you are having deja vu and thought there was already a location there, you are sort of right. Hooter's once was opened in the location where there is currently a World of Beer. It's projected to open at the end of March. There is already a Hooter's location in Ocala, and in other locations throughout the state.

Florida Gators Football Finish Season Ranked #7 Nationally

After the Florida Gators trounced over the Michigan Wolverines in the Peach Bowl, the team was bound to move up in the final rankings of the year. Their success was shown in the final poll, as they were tied with Georgia to be #7 in the country.

Expectations were high for the Florida Gators football team this season, but even the biggest fans have to be extremely happy with the final results. The final Associated Press rankings were announced on Tuesday, and the Gators finished the season tied with Georgia at #7 in the poll. The top ten ranking comes after the Gators went 4-7 the season before. Dan Mullen is only the second coach in Gator history to finish the season with a top ten ranking, with Galen Hall the other coach back in 1985. Florida Gators football returns on August 31st when they take on Miami in Orlando to open the 2019 season.

The company has been failing for years and also owns K-Mart, which is also closing down. It's already closed the Sears on Oaks Mall and the K-Mart on Newberry Square, both in Gainesville with the Sears on Paddock Mall in Ocala now scheduled to close.

Truck Driver Involved in Fatal Crash Had History of Violations

The truck driver who was involved in the fatal crash on I-75 last week which took the lives of five children had a history of traffic violations on his record. He was issued 10 traffic violations in the last four years.

The region is still mourning after the fatal crash that occurred on I-75 last week which took the lives of five children and two truck drivers. Now we are finding out more about one of the truck drivers involved in the accident. According to the Gainesville Sun, 59 year old Steve Holland was issued 10 traffic citations in Palm Beach County in the last four years. Those traffic citations included: - Failing to show proof of insurance - Careless Driving and Speeding Holland worked for the trucking company Eagle Express Lines.

Florida Gators Gymnastics Opens Season Friday

The Florida Gators Gymnastics team opens their season this Friday (January 11th) as they take on Missouri. The meet starts at 6:45PM at Exactech Arena and great seats are still available!
 

Everyone is back on campus this week as we kick off the spring semester, and the University of Florida Gymnastics team is back in action as they open their season Friday night! The Gators will be taking on the Missouri Tigers at 6:45PM at Exactech Arena. The Gators were ranked #3 in the preseason, and Missouri is one of four nationally ranked teams that Florida currently has on the schedule. They also face #7 Georgia on February 22nd, #10 Kentucky on January 25th, and #14 Auburn on February 8th. Missouri is currently ranked #19 in the nation. Archer Chick-Fil-A to Move Across the Street

The Chick-Fil-A on Archer Road will close down, and a new one will be opened right across the street half a mile away on November 29th. So...why did it cross the road?

The beloved Chick-Fil-A on Archer opened in October of 2000. Now, it will be closing its door and changing locations to a half mile away, with staff in tow. The new restaurant will keep the two-lane drive-thru as well as the playground and outdoor seating. Cars won't be as packed going through the line because of increased spacing throughout the lanes around the building.
